Testing the Temperature Gauge

I wanted to make sure that the temperature switch worked. When it gets hot it closes. So, I just needed to get it hot and see if it shorted to ground. I tried boiling water, but the most successful was just holding the switch over the burner:



When it gets hot enough it closes the switch, and you can measure this with an ohmmeter.
